How to update a project to a new version

created 3 years ago (modified 3 years ago)

[DevExpress Support Team: CLONED FROM T906999: DevExpress WinForms Cheat Sheets, Best Practices and Troubleshooting]

I came here hoping to find some information about the upgrade process. I have customers many places who have installed my win forms apps. If I upgrade from my current version (18.2) to a newer (dare I say current?) version, will that have an adverse impact? Also, can I just install a new version right over an old one, or will I need to un-install/re-install?
In any case, that's the kind of hope I was looking for here. Can you steer me to an article/video that lays this out for me?

Please respond in whatever manner is most convenient for you. I offer choices below.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Different major versions of our .NET products are designed to operate side by side in the same Visual Studio. If you have a minute, read the following article for more information: Can DevExpress products co-exist and be used on a single machine or project?. Considering this, feel free to install a new version alongside DevExpress v18.2 on your machine. If you don't need any of them, feel free to uninstall it at any stage.

After you install a new version, you can update your application to this version using the Project Converter. For this, follow the steps from this article: Upgrade Notes

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have further questions.
