Good afternoon!
Will we be able to see the roadmap for 2022?
VCL Roadmap 2022
Answers approved by DevExpress Support
Hello Andrey,
This document is not ready yet. I cannot specify a certain time frame for now.
Oliver, thank you for your reply.
Sad, but we'll wait for news.
I'm back! wen roadmap ? :)
A bit worrying that we now are almost halfway into May without a roadmap, while other product lines got their road map in february.
Any news?
Version 22.1 should be almost ready and we don't even have the roadmap yet.
Give me some news about what's going on. Whether the news is good or bad, but say something please.
All
From my viewpoint, roadmaps are both good and bad. Certainly they show what we're planning for a product. But the biggest issue with them is that they tend to be a little too optimistic and we can (and do, sometimes) fail to implement some of the functionality we've promised. (Indeed, every roadmap we publish has a warning that says this explicitly.)
With regard to our VCL Subscription and our Delphi development team, there's a bit more to say. The year before last, we decided to try creating an FMX product. To be blunt, it was not successful at all. Unfortunately we spent way too much time on it and our VCL Subscription suffered. Another faux pas (in a sense) was our decision late last year to create a chart control library using the existing support that we have for charts within our grid control. Again we spent too much time on it before coming to the conclusion that we may not be able to successfully compete with others in that space, especially as RAD Studio devs already get a freebie chart suite when they install.
So, all in all, this year we are concentrating on polishing the existing VCL components and their functionality based upon what our other .NET/Web teams are doing. This does mean that producing meaningful or detailed particulars would be hard since there are bound to be too many exceptions at the end of the roadmap period.
I would also encourage you to email me personally (julianb@devexpress.com) if there's certain functionality that you want or are expecting, and I will discuss it with our development team at our next meeting.
Cheers, Julian
Thank you for sharing the news. I'm anxious for new features, mainly charts and PivotGrid
I don't expect dx Chart library to cover everything from TeeChart. Important is unified look with other dx components and as I understood, it was also requirement for future Dashboard functionality. Please don't drop it.
I can IvanN0 fully agree with that! Please do not drop the new dxChart-Component.
I disagree, the Roadmap of an important library like DevExpress also serves to organize and estimate the work of us developers.
and then the graph is important (as mentioned in other comments) also for a homogeneity of the UI
why do your other libraries write the Roadmap?
are you going to leave development for Delphi?
Hey Julian!
As i understand your VCL 2022 "internal" roadmap is already done so can you make possible to VOTE from now what we want to see in VCL 2023 ?
There tons of features in .NET libraries which you can add in the poll!
You did this the past and it was awesome!
Thank you
Half of the year is over …
Is there any news from the roadmap?
I was just wondering what happened to V22.
Is there an ETA or link with the features?
Why are you delaying the release?
TIA,
Clément
Vote for Dashboard like .net with chart, panels, and so on
This is a bugfix year only! lol! :D
I believe that too. Unfortunately :(
Well i hope DevExpress Delphi devs are ok at least! We need them! :)
VCL RIP! lol

What you mean light ? It's nothing! :D
This is by far the most disappointing update in DevExpress VCL history. All the promises which DevExpress made are belied. After cancelling FireMonkey development they promised to fully concentrate on VCL and now this. Additions to the online help are sold as a feature enhancement. 5 (!) new translatable identifiers. Internal stream functions are made public for grid data export. Existing vector icons are used for the generation of the ribbon UI, but still the old ugly bitmap glyphs in grid, navigator and so on. Sorry, but I'm speechless. The serious question here is whether the subscription still makes sense or whether it is better to cancel after 12 years of uninterrupted subscriptions.
Now we know, why there won't be a roadmap. It would be a joke!

I prefer to pay a higher annual subscription and have more options
Thanks Ronald,
i think this information is the real meat.
Everybody knows the situation with the horrible war in Ukraine.
In the last decades a lot of companies outsourced development/support to Russia/Moscow. Not only DevExpress.
The important information is DevExpress canceled development/support contracts on March 2.
This is good. But it implies there were contracts. We don't know to which extent.
Considering this situation, we cannot dream of "voting for new features".
Imho we can be glad VCL subscription is not going to maintenance mode only.
The only critics that i have, DevExpress should make all this important information transparent to us subscribers.
(Instead they are talking about canceling FMX, which was in 2020. Now we are in 2022…)
DevExpress hopes to sit out and wait it out, like many other companies.
This thread, as well as others on the Internet, shows that DevExpress VCL customers are getting anxious due to the lack of substantial updates (what we are paying for with our subscription) and as importantly, reliable and frequent public information.
I understand that VCL might not be even close to the biggest cash flow for DevExpress, but many long term customers deserve the right to get reliable and frequent updates. Not to mention customers of more profitable product lines who could get anxious about the company's inability to deliver or at least properly inform.
I also understand that the current world situation is not easy to handle but, once again, clear, frequent and reliable information is the key here.
Thank you.

Actually we would like to vote which features you should add …
It's unfortunate that DevEx has to deal with this situation. I think if what I read on Delphi-PRAXIS is correct that it might have been handled a little differently but hindsight is 20/20. I would have been totally okay with hearing the full story on March 2.
I agree with the comment about paying more for a subscription or maybe adding a premium subscription might be an option. Although it sounds like that option should be for the valuable subscribers that need/want to be spoon fed ;-) Anyway, I'd be happy paying for a premium subscription.
Hasta la vista DevEx VCL, loved by us for 20 years, lucky we didnt renew our subs…
As i see it isn't fair either!
C# subscribers will got a whole bunch of new features while Delphi did not and the subscriptions prices haven't changed.
Devexpress must give us a free subscription extension (6 or 12 months) until they resolve this issue if they want happy customers.
I think that DevExpress at the end of the year (november or december) must tell us about the prospects for development and solving problems with VCL.
Initial purchase is great value, subscription value on the other hand is a joke. If they lower subscription price to lets say $100, I could live with this micro-updates.
Every VCL subscriber has ample opportunity to test and benchmark the various components. I think the proportionate revenue stream for DevX generated by VCL would surely dictate the resources allocated to it. Devexpress is a a company, not a liberal government. Some nice to haves are lacking, but we know that going in.
So the great question … is this the end of VCL from Devexpress or not ?
I like the devexpress charts – they are much more useful and definitely more dynamic looking than TeeChart. Please keep them in the VCL product.
How about a "heat" map view of points on in the Map Control? :)
