Hello,
We have a requirement to develop an application which supports "Right To Left". We extensively use DevExpress controls in our other products and we like to develop the new application using DevExpress Controls. Can you please help us in choosing the right DevExpress controls from the following that will be best suitable for our development
- DevExpress WinFormsControls (Layout, Grid, TreeList, Editors), & their RTL Spport.
- DevExpress WPF Controls & their RTL Spport.
- DevExpress Silverlight Controls & their RTL Spport.
- DevExpress ASP.Net Control & their RTL Spport.
regards
Ramesh
Hi Ramesh,
Here is the summary of our RTL support:
Windows Forms:
RTL is supported by the following controls (Is Right-To-Left mode supported?):
- ListBoxControl
- ImageListBoxControl
- CheckedListBoxControl
WPF
We support RTL in our WPF suite. We did not do all the tests, but our official position is that we will do our best to fix any issue that you find with RTL.
ASP .NET
We have no ASP.NET controls that support RTL properly. Please track the following request, and you will be notified of any progress:
Support right-to-left layout direction for ASP.NET controls and MVC extensions
Silverlight
We do not do anything that can prevent RTL correct operation in our SL controls. The only exception is our SL RichEdit control. This control will not work correctly with RTL mode switched on.
Thanks
Dimitros
Dear Dimitros,
Thank you very much for your reply.
Can you please give me an outline of printing, reporting Controls for Winforms, WPF & Silverlight that support "Right-To-Left". mainly the user designers etc. showing in right to left mode
regards
Ramesh
Hi Ramesh,
Thank you for your reply.
The text controls in the XtraReports Suite does not have built-in support for this functionality. Please track the suggestion: XRControl - Add the RightToLeft property to all text aware controls to be informed on our progress over this item.
Thanks,
Elliot
Hi Elliot,
I think my question is not fully answered.
Does the WPF, Silverlight Printing & Reporting Controls and end user designers support "Right-To-Left"?
regards
Ramesh
Hi Ramesh,
Thank you for such an early reply.
The XtraReports Suite does not support the "Right-To-Left" capability for all platforms.
Thanks,
Elliot
Hi Elliot,
We are totally confused now.
If DevExpress WPF Controls & DevExpress Silverlight Controls support "Right-To-Left" then why not DevExpress Reports for WPF & Silverlight doesn't support "Right-To-Left". Are these components and End User Designers not developed natively for WPF & Silverlight …?
As we are in a critical stage to choose a technology and component set to develop our "Right-To-Left" supported application. please suggest a right way.
regards
Ramesh
Hi Ramesh,
XtraReports Suite uses the same controls for all supported platforms. As I mentioned above, these controls does not have support the "Right-To-Left" feature. So, please the track the following suggestion: XRControl - Add the RightToLeft property to all text aware controls to be informed about progress over this item.
Thanks,
Elliot
Hi Elliot,
Thanks for your reply.
I have gone through the reporting demos and examples for WPF and Silverlight. I couldn't find any end user designers for WPF Silverlight.
Is the examples provided doesn't demonstrate EndUser designer for reporting in WPF, Silverlight ? Or Devexpress have native reporting viewers but doesn't have native reporting Designers / EndUser Designers in WPF / Silverlight ?
Can you please in comparision provide the can and can't between Winforms & WPF in terms of (reporting , charting)
regards
Ramesh
Hi Ramesh,
>>>
I couldn't find any end user designers for WPF Silverlight.
<<<
XrtraReports Suite does not have the end-user designer for WPF/Silverlight platforms. Please track following suggestions:
Silverlight - Create a Report Designer for Silverlight
WPF - Create a Report Designer for WPF
However, you can invoke the standard End-User Designer in a WPF application. Please review the How to invoke standard XtraReports Print Preview and End-User Designer in a WPF application code example for additional information.
Thanks,
Elliot
Hi Elliot,
According to your blog "Right-to-Left (RTL) Language Support in WPF and Silverlight" saying "All of DevExpress components for WPF and Silverlight support Right-to-Left languages with the release of version 2010.2 of DXperience".
Is this mean that WPF & Silverlight report viewers also support RTL ( I mean the data content and label content auomatically alligned to right automatically in RTL Mode)? If not what is your stand on implementing RTL mode for reporting
Any Idea about implementing EndUserDesiners (Reports) For WPF/Silverlight (with RTL support) in 10.2. ? If not when are they planned to include?
regards
Ramesh
Hi Ramesh,

Your approach is not completely correct. As I mentioned above, XtraReports Suite uses the same controls for all supported platforms. These controls does not have support the "Right-To-Left" feature. So, the report in the report viewer does not have the RTL mode.

10.2 version of the XtraReports Suite does not have the End-User Designers for WPF/Silverlight. I am afraid that I cannot provide you either with an exact release version that will contain this feature or with the date this version will be released, because it depends on a number of factors.
Thanks,
Elliot
Hi,
The blog posted, see below states that all Devexpress's WPF and Silverlight controls support RTL. That obviously must include the report viewers. We are confused how this statement can be squared with the fact that it will still not be possible to produce RTL reports in 2010.2. Surely this represents a degree of inconsistency if it is not possible to develop RTL reports BUT it is possible to view them.
All we are looking for is some clarity as to whether in the future you intend to offer this facility, i.e. use the report developer to develop RTL reports and if so the approximate timescale.
We really need to understand this information to help us decide our development path and whether to continue using these controls or to move to a supplier with a more complete and consistent set.
Thanks for your help.

Hi David,

Yes, you are completely right. There is no way to create RTL report by using reporting controls.

<<<<
I have no information about release version that will contain this feature, sorry.
Thanks,
Elliot

I have no information about release version that will contain this feature, sorry.
If you personally have got no information on this then please tell us who would have such information together with contact details.

Hi,
Can you give us an update on DevExpress 2011 release and the much waiting native availability of native end user designers for reporting in WPF and Silverlight.
Ramesh
Hi David,
We will address this question to our technical evangelist Seth Juarez. He will get back to you ASAP. Also, you can contact Seth directly at sethj@devexpress.com email if additional assistance is necessary.
Thanks,
Elliot
Hi Ramesh,
I suggest that you contact Seth directly at sethj@devexpress.com email to get additional information about this issue.

Ramesh:
Thanks so much for contacting me! I have read through the support ticket and will try to be as clear as possible:
The answer here is yes.
The actual viewer might! I have not tried it (but I am guessing it does).
Our reporting suite consists of two parts: The reports themselves, and the viewers. These are two wholly separate things. While the viewers in WPF/Silverlight might indeed support RTL, the reports themselves do not currently support RTL.
This is indeed on the roadmap. My personal estimate is the end of this year (but you can't hold me to it as this is a very time intensive thing to create with tons of external factors).
I think so!
Not this year. Again, since the reports themselves are separate from the actual viewers/designers, the designers/viewers might indeed support RTL, but we have not budgeted time to build native RTL support into the reports themselves.
I hope this helps clarify things! I will add this text to the support ticket as well.
Thanks,
Seth
