DataGrid - Column resizing works incorrectly if rtlEnabled is set to true

on RTL grid, with columnResizingMode=Widget, then dragging the resize splitter to the right, the rightmost column goes off the screen
on RTL, the behaviour should be opposite - the rightmost column should become smaller, and the leftmost larger

We have addressed the issue described in this ticket and will include a fix in our next maintenance update. To apply this solution before official release, request a hotfix by clicking the appropriate version link.

Note: Hotfixes may be unavailable for betas/updates set for release within a week.

Additional information:

After the fix, it is necessary to have the container for the grid with the enabled rtl mode. In this case, resizing will work correctly.

Thank you for your patience.

The column resizing behavior works incorrectly because the direction of the dataGrid's parent container is not set to RTL. We have modified your demo illustrating the left columns adjusting when the dir attribute of the dataGrid's container set to RTL.

If this is the behavior you are expecting for, please let us know.

No, now its even worse - Im moving the column to the right to expand it, but its collapsing the widget from the left side…

At the moment it is not entirely clear why our demo does not meet your requirements, would you please describe with greater details the behavior you wish to achieve when resizing the columns so we try to suggest better solutions?

Ill try to be clearer
for RTL, The behaviour should be an exact mirror of the behaviour you're familiar with

put mode = widget
Drag the border between State and City columns to the left
I expect :
- the city column to grow to the left,
- the state column to remain the same and
- the whole page to grow to the left as well

Instead, what happens is that :
- city column stays the same
- state column shrinks
- the whole page shrinks from the right

This doesn't happend

We have discussed your concern with our developers and they are currently working on this issue to fix the behavior of the columns on RTL direction. This might take some time and, at this moment, I cannot provide you the ETA of the fix.

I see another issue that is probobly related
even if control is in nextColumn mode, and I'm making the grid smaller (making the browser window smaller, width is relative), its hiding the rightmost column (which is actually the 1st in RTL) instead of the leftmost

I cannot reproduce this behavior using this example. Would you please modify it and record a screencast to demonstrate your steps? You can use the ShareX or Monosnap tool for this purpose.

This will help us find out if these issues are connected.

My bad - forgot to mention that AllowColumnHiding should be false to recreate it

Notice the horizontal scrollbar position
Company name is hidden from view but it should be visible since its the first column

Hi Mike,

Thank you for the clarification. DataGrid doesn't automatically update the scroll position after resizing the window in this case. However, the problem doesn't appear if I reload the page. Please review the screencast I attached. Do your users resize a container\window with the grid in a real scenario?

Also, we have a similar report in the DataGrid - Horizontal scrolling starts from the left when RTL is enabled and a data source is set asynchronously thread and will research this behavior there as well. Could you please check it and let us know if it matches your use case?

After reload it is ok
The 2nd case seems like the same issue

As for users resizing the container - the grid is full width, so yes, resizing the browser window would resize the grid as well
Its definetely not a major issue, but for proper RTL behaviour I think it should be fixed.
I know its not natural, but for users working in RTL mode even small details like this should be mirrored

After further research we found that the issue with window resizing and the scrollbar position is not related the original one.

We continue working on it in the context of the DataGrid - Scrollbar position is incorrect after resizing the browser window if rtlEnabled is true thread.
